September 27. A drum track with perfect sixteenth notes on the hi-hat sounds like a robot. It gets better when you add randomness. A perfectly accented groove works because it breaks the rules. Notes are where they shouldn’t be, ten milliseconds before or after the grid. Does a groove like that also get better with randomness? A simulation of the fact that with a human, every note is imperfect? The question quickly reaches considerable depth.
