September 8. And tonight to Sweden. With the entry requirements tightened since the weekend, it is not clear if I’ll be allowed into the country at all. After a long study of the regulations, I see two possibilities.
First, I am allowed to enter because I am an EU citizen and EU citizens are always allowed to enter, even if they live in the US, as long as they present a negative test from the last 48 hours. Other provisions seem to contradict this. After all, for infection risk, it depends on where you live, not what citizenship you have. Second, I am allowed to enter because I am visiting my children. This is undoubtedly true, because it is literally written in the regulations (as long as I also present a test), but I cannot formally prove it, because I have nothing except a printed email.
There is also the fact that both the Dutch and the Swedish border officials must be of the same opinion about it, and not only them, but also the airline in JFK, which has to decide whether to let me on the plane at all. And as for the test: it’s unclear what kind of test is accepted by whom, because the exact name of the test I took yesterday as a drive-thru at Walgreens is not in any of the regulations. So, to be on the safe side, I took another test today, at home and under video surveillance.
